Community Spirit
Allotments are community enterprises and work well when the allotment members work together for the common good. It is important to remember that politeness and a smile go a long way to making happy plot holders. A few simple rules and an understanding of how the allotment is organised and run will help to avoid misunderstandings and potential conflict.
A Sense of Community
A little background on the organisation and running of the allotment.

"Estate" and "plot" - a way of distinguishing between those activities that are the responsibility of the charity and management group/organisation and those things that are directly the responsibility of the plot holder.
We enjoy a very reasonable level of rent for our plots. This is because we do much of the work of maintenance of the estate ourselves. Things like the glut hut, tool shed, communal paths and hedges and access are all looked after by volunteers. We have a mowing rota and clear up days. Small trees and the odd dead tree are taken down by us and processed.
We inspect the plots regularly and work with those plot holders who need help and advice to keep their plots tidy and productive.
We also work to support plot holders who are going through personal crises such as ill health or unexpected unavailability.
The management group are there to help, do talk to them if you are struggling or have an issue that needs their help or support.
We will shortly be updating the list of members of the management group, and will be communicating contact details at that stage. The update should be finalised in October, probably after the open meeting.
